In some cases, you will need to do more than just create a simply .htaccess file, and may need to navigate to /bb-admin/rewrite-rules.php and copy the output to an .htaccess file.

For me, the output looked like this:

Alright it's been a month, but I have to apologize as I have yet to finish.
I was using RSS2HTML in the theme, but two things have changed in the latest version of bbPress:
1) The RSS feed encoding has changed slightly
2) The way themes are accessed has changed

I'm currently live-debugging (stupid I know...), but you should see some results shortly.

Can you talk me through how to make the first latest post 'open?' like you have it?

Is it possible to have it show the post count as well?

What about calling it from a specific forum?

I am trying to get the smf/vbulletin effect of having a news article front page linked to the forums.

I'm working on a new template, which can be previewed at my forum @ http://foro.moskis.net

It's called BluePress, inspired in Blue-k2, a style i did for WordPress K2 theme, that can als be prevewed at my blog @ http://blog.moskis.net

As you can see the forum is also being localized to informal espanish. Any C&C, ideas to make it better, or oppinion of any kind is apreciated. :)

I laughed too!
But bbPress sincerely does look promising.
I've been tweaking a test site quite a bit and will send the changes upstream as soon as I'm sure it's stable (it's playing peak-a-boo with some of the functions right now).
Also: the mint stats code appears to have stopped working, though the Google Analytics portion has held strong which is good enough for now.
At some point I'll incorporate an admin module into the backend for Google Adsense affiliate number changing so it needn't be hand done.
But I get ahead of myself - if you have changes you've made and liked let us know! (or use the mailing list)

I have been experimenting in bbPress, trying to figure out a good way to get targeted adverts to appear alongside content, as hosting this does in fact cost a bit of money.
It seems that there is a bit of a problem in bbPress at the moment, and it involves the words "tags", which pops up everywhere, since that is what bbPress chooses to call its meta tags, or categories.
Because of this, if you simply include your adsense code in the header you will have a bit of a problem because you will get many advertisements focused on things that revolve around what bbPress publishes as meta data, and the actual content of the page you have published.
In order to alleviate this issue and get some proper search engine optimization going, I would recommend adding the Google Adsense code to the top of each of your my-templates PHP files, taking care to ad the code in after bbPress calls its header.php file.
This will allow you to market the pages in a much better fashion - search engine marketing made easy!

Using http://cow.neondragon.net/stuff/reflection/ I was able to add reflection to the blandname bbPress theme.
Here's how it works:
You'll need two files to make this happen.

the famed prototype.js - http://prototype.conio.net/dist/prototype-1.4.0.js
reflection.js - http://cow.neondragon.net/stuff/reflection/reflection.zip

Put both files in either /my-templates or /bb-templates, CHMOD them to 755, and edit your header.php file accordingly.
In my case:

<script type="text/javascript" src="/my-templates/prototype.js"></script>
Was added before the last div tag in the header.php file.
In order to make the reflection work, make sure to add class="reflect" to any img tags you wish to have reflecting and looking all mac daddy cool.

After working a few hours hacking the bbPress code, I have been able to include a few refinements that make me a bit more confident in rolling out bbPress to other sites.
They are as follows:

Prominent RSS feed link with recognizable button
Better heatmap with snazzy striped background
Included Google Adsense in the theme
Included Google Analytics in the theme
Included dynamic footer that changes from blog to blog

There will be more features to come - the theme is not final, just a sort of compendium for all the changes made to the site today.
You can download the blandname bbPress theme by clicking on this link.
Installation is the same as any other bbPress theme or template - it will install to the my-templates folder, and bbPress will use it instead of the default template.
Oh, you'll want to edit the header file to include your adsense number, and edit the footer while you're at it to insert your analytics code.
(I'll be making that dynamic soon, I promise)

In order to get a nice heatmap going in in bbPress, you'll need to edit one whole line of PHP code in either the bb-templates folder, or my-templates if you are using a custom theme.
The file in question is front-page.php, and we'll be editing around line 6 if you are using either the blandname theme or the default that comes with bbPress.

Here's what you would normally see:

We're going to change that to:

In order the variables are:
20 - the smallest value for the tags
100 - the highest value for the tags

40 - the number of tags to display

There exists a hot tags page that is set up by default in BBPress that isn't linked to in the default theme, and it's a shame because of the SEO potential.

This will be an ongoing issue I think...
Though it's currently set up and working, I'd really prefer something akin to: forum.blandname.com/POST_NAME_NUMBER/ instead of the current rewrite rules that includes numbers and question marks.

I haven't been getting much feedback on the latest poll, and it's probably my fault because it's positioned under the adverts... oh well.
As a lazy developer and software-lover, my only choice is to implement ALL of the solutions, one at a time.
So that's how we got here with our second real announcement, after the Digg plugin for Pandion (thanks to 43things for reminding me once weekly that I needed to start an open-source project).
I've opened a forum for all to use - you can feel free to post tech support questions, links you have found, or just general chit-chat if need be. I've set up a pretty good spam filtering system, but we'll see how it works. I honestly have a hard time believing anything could work as well as Dr. Dave's Spam Karma 2 plugin for WordPress.
So head on over to the blandname forum and check it out!
I've set up BBPress there, and to be honest it was a cinch. I'll post a how to later, but it's not so involved. I was able to get modrewrite going right away - which in my opinion is an absolute necessity for proper SEO. I will be attempting to integrate the themes and users via MySQL shortly, so if you've registered with blandname, you'll have access to the forums as well.
